BOSTON -- The organization that unsuccessfully tried to bring an IndyCar race to Boston has filed for bankruptcy, saying it has almost $9 million in liabilities and about $60,000 in assets.Boston Grand Prix said in its bankruptcy filing Tuesday that its liabilities include $1,677,894.77 owed to people who bought tickets for the race, which was supposed to be held over Labor Day weekend. The tickets went on sale in March, but the race was canceled in April with organizers saying the city was making unreasonable demands. City officials, in turn, said the race course group was disorganized.Creditors include several former sponsors of the race and the Indianapolis-based national IndyCar organization, which says it is owed $4.2 million. The race organizers also list a prepayment to IndyCar of $487,500. In addition, it had prepaid the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority $98,740 for what it says was 10 percent of the fee of its license agreement with the state. The filing wont stop the pressure from Massachusetts attorney general Maura Healey, whose office has put race organizers and IndyCar on official notice that a lawsuit could be filed despite the bankruptcy.Boston Grand Prixs bankruptcy filing today does nothing to prevent us from our continued efforts to find out where the money ticket holders spent has gone and to aggressively pursue a refund for those consumers, said Cyndi Roy Gonzalez, a spokesperson for Healey. We will continue to seek information from all parties involved and take whatever action is necessary to get the money back for those who purchased tickets.Race organizers said they regretted filing for bankruptcy but it was their only option.Due to events and circumstances beyond BGPs control, the race event was cancelled by the City and IndyCar without regard to the impact on ticket holders and other affected parties, Boston Grand Prix said in a statement. Since that cancellation, BGP has worked to return money to ticket holders including an immediate payment of $400,000. However, it has become clear that a full refund will not be possible without the cooperation of third parties, including IndyCar and others who have been unwilling to participate.BGP hopes that the present filing may provide a forum for an orderly disposition and administration of claims to provide as full a return as possible to the ticketholders and all other impacted parties.Among notable creditors listed in the filing for sponsorship fees: computer connectivity company LogMeIn ($390,000), tire company Bridgestone ($223,550), fuel and oil company Global Partners ($275,000), MillerCoors ($105,000), wine and spirits company Pernaud Ricard ($100,000), car dealer Herb Chambers ($100,000) and New Balance ($50,000). They also owe George R. Roberts Company $645,579 for concrete barriers and Firestone $223,500.ESPN Staff Writer Bob Pockrass and The Associated Press contributed to this report. MINNEAPOLIS -- James Shields will try to build on an encouraging outing his last time out when he takes the mound for the Chicago White Sox against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night at Target Field.Shields allowed two runs on six hits and three walks in six innings of work against the Detroit Tigers on Monday but did not figure into the decision. Chicago eventually lost the game 4-3.It was a marked improvement from his previous five starts in August when the right-hander went 0-4 with a 13.95 ERA, allowing 31 earned runs in just 20 innings of work.Shields time with the White Sox has been inconsistent: He allowed 21 earned runs in his first three trips to the mound after his trade in early June from San Diego, then had a 2.11 ERA in his next seven starts before his troubles in August. The White Sox are hoping Mondays outing is the beginning of another uptick. As the game went on, I got a little more comfortable and made some pitches when I needed to, Shields told the Chicago Tribune after his last start. I was really happy with the way I was throwing (my curveball) for strikes, getting ahead of hitters right away, throwing it early in the count for strikes.Minnesota will send former White Sox starter Hectoor Santiago to the mound.dddddddddddd. Santiago will also be trying to follow up a quality start, his first with the Twins since being acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in a trade on Aug. 1.Santiago shutout the Cleveland Indians over 6 1/3 innings on Monday but did not get a win after Cleveland won 1-0 in extra innings. The left-hander walked four men but gave up just three hits.I think I pitched smart (on Monday) in a sense that I didnt give in to certain guys and made pitches when I needed to in big situations, Santiago told MLB.com. This is what I want to do and what I know I can do. Its been rough the last couple weeks, but hopefully were on the right road now.Santiago had lost all four of his previous starts with the Twins, rolling up a 10.89 ERA in 19 innings pitched. He went 8-10 with a 3.41 ERA over parts of three seasons with the White Sox from 2011-2013, the club that drafted him in the 30th round of the 2006 draft.Santiago has been effective in limited action against his former club, going 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA in three career starts against them when with the Angels.
